Driver dead after semi-trailer rollover on Interstate 80 at Kedzie Avenue in south suburbs
A semi-trailer rollover on Interstate 80 near Kedzie Avenue in Hazel Crest killed one person Tuesday morning, according to Illinois State Police. At about 4:30 a.m., the tractor-trailer being driven east went down an embankment off the roadway and overturned onto Kedzie Avenue, police said in a statement Tuesday morning. CHICAGO—Colin F. Maher, 42, of Chicago and formerly of Sugar Grove, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. Born on May 25, 1982, in Downers Grove, IL, Colin was the son of Moira (Wayne) Shoger, of Wilmington and the late Terrence Sutte. He received his education and graduated from Kaneland High School with the class of 2000. A true artisan in carpentry, Colin's craftsmanship knew no bounds as he skillfully owned and operated Maher Construction. Beyond his talents in woodworking, he found solace and joy in strumming the guitar, writing music, and creating poetry.

Sunday’s severe weather event torn a roof off of JJC and flew along Cass Street damaging the exterior of Illinois Rock and Roll Museum on Route 66. Twisted metal that sat on top of the HVAC system at JJC on Chicago Street made its way to Cass Street, blocking roads. The severe weather blew through just before 9am Sunday, July 14th and caused power outages and trees limbs to be scattered around the city. The National Weather Service confirms it was a microburst on Sunday morning.
