North Carolina Man's Holiday Tradition Lands Him Massive Lottery Prize

A North Carolina man's holiday tradition led to a massive quarter million dollar lottery win.

William Bon Viso , of Wilmington, told lottery officials that his aunt usually tends him scratch-off tickets in honor of Father's Day, but when he received $20 this year instead, he decided to buy his own, according to a release from the NC Education Lottery .

"I kept the tradition and bought them myself," he said. "A $20 Father's Day gift became a blessing ."

That blessing came in the form of a $250,000 prize when he picked up a 20X The Cash ticket from the Walmart on Sigmon Road that proved to be the lucky winner. Bon Visco couldn't believe it when he checked his ticket saw how much he won.

"I was like in another world," he said. "I was on a cloud."

He continued, "Life is just all about timing. It just shows you have to always follow your gut."

Bon Viso claimed his prize at lottery headquarters on Friday (June 28), taking home a grand total of $178,751 after all required state and federal tax withholdings. According to lottery officials, he plans to invest his new winnings and maybe even take a trip. As for now, he's still trying to wrap his head around his dream of winning the lottery finally becoming a reality.

"I still can't believe I am here right now," he told officials, adding, "This is beyond a dream come true."
