Audio from two 911 calls provides more information in the fatal shooting of a juvenile in Wilmington.

Around 5:30 p.m. on June 19, 2024, a shooting in the 2200 block of Teresa Drive left one 17-year-old male dead, according to the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office. Following an investigation, including witness testimony, detectives with the sheriff's office arrested three 17-year-olds in connection with the crime.

The audio from two 911 calls provides more details into what took place both before and after the shooting.

"Our friend got shot," one caller said. It was a "drug deal gone bad. He's in the ... car."

Someone in the background of the call can be heard yelling at the caller to get out of their yard.

The shooting happened five minutes prior to placing the 911 call, the caller said.

"Oh my god. My friend's going to die," the caller said. "I ... ran to get help ... I feel so bad for leaving (them) ... I don't know what to do."

The caller asks if police are on the way and then identifies the suspect as a person in their teens or early twenties.

"All of them had masks, but the one without a mask had an arm tattoo of something," the caller said. "There were like three people there. One had a camo ski mask."

The weapon was a handgun, potentially a Glock 17, the caller said, adding that they are unfamiliar with firearms. When asked by the dispatcher how many shots were fired, the caller said they believe it was three shots.

The caller said their friend is still in the passenger seat of the vehicle. When asked by the 911 dispatcher what direction the suspect fled in, the caller said they do not know.

"I tried to call for help and then when I went back to the car, one of the ... (suspects) came that way and then I hopped a fence into this dude's backyard and I'm here now," the caller said.

The caller said they do not think the suspect's intention was to shoot but was not certain.

"I don't know. I saw a gun and I got scared and then I floored it," the caller said.

The 911 dispatcher can be heard asking the caller if they are able to get back to the area where their friend is located.

"I think so. (They) could be dead," the caller said.

The caller said they are trying to hop the fence to exit the backyard. The call ends when the caller sees a police officer on scene with their friend.

A resident of Teresa Drive placed an additional call to 911.

"Well, apparently I got a guy shot in the car in my front yard," the caller said. "Two guys pulled up in the car in the yard, one of them jumped out and ran in my back yard, I ran up there to tell him to get out of my backyard and he said that his friend has been shot and he took off out of the backyard."

The car was still running with the driver's side door open, the caller said.

"They said they had a drug deal gone bad and I guess they ended up here," the caller said. "I looked in there, I haven't touched the guy, but (they aren't) moving."

The call concludes when police arrive on scene.
