    The 10 richest cities in NC include these Wilmington-area places, according to Forbes

    Two Wilmington-area towns are among the 10 richest areas in North Carolina, according to an analysis by Forbes.

    Using 2022 U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey five-year estimates, Forbes considered more than 690 cities in North Carolina to identify the 50 wealthiest in the state. The analysis was based on median household income, average household income, median home value and median property taxes paid.

    Here's what they found.

    Bald Head Island is fifth-richest in the state

    Bald Head Island was the highest-rated town in the Wilmington area, coming in at number five.

    Based on the statistics used by Forbes, Bald Head Island has 89 households and a median household income of $121,458. The village's average household income is $205,078, and the median home value is $888,400. According to the data, the median property taxes paid on the island was $8,625.

    Bald Head Island is located off the coast of Brunswick County, accessible only by a 20-minute ferry boat ride from Southport.

    Wrightsville Beach also makes top 10

    Ranking seventh, Wrightsville Beach also made the list of the state's richest cities.

    According to the census data used, the town has 1,242 households and a median household income of $111,346. The average household income in Wrightsville Beach is $158,222 and the median home value is $855,700. According to the data, the median property taxes paid in the town was $4,716.

    Wrightsville Beach is one of three beach towns in New Hanover County.

    Other Wilmington-area cities, towns make the list

    While Bald Head Island and Wrightsville Beach were the only Wilmington-area towns to make the top 10, several other area municipalities and census-designated places were listed lower among the 50 richest in the state.

    Also on the list were the Brunswick County municipalities of St. James, Caswell Beach, Ocean Isle Beach and Holden Beach. Kure Beach, Porters Neck and Ogden in New Hanover County made the list, as well as Pender County's Topsail Beach and Hampstead.
