The Potbelly sandwich shop chain is adding a second Wilmington location. The restaurant opens Friday in the Mayfaire shopping center near Wrightsville Beach. It joins the existing Wilmington shop which opened four years ago at 2515 S 17th St. near New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Here’s what to expect as the new one opens.

    The new restaurant

The new Potbelly is at 6818 Parker Farm Drive in the former SunTrust Bank site. Brent and Michele Brouse own both local restaurants and have incorporated local touches into the shop’s look. The new restaurant will also have a drive-thru and offer delivery to nearby areas of Wrightsville Beach and Landfall.

    What’s planned for the opening?

Regular hours for the new location will be 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. On Friday, the first 100 people there will receive a coupon for a free sandwich. The breakfast menu includes classic sandwiches (like bacon, egg and cheddar) and coffee. Later in the day, the menu includes signature Potbelly sandwiches, mac and cheese, soups, salads, chips, cookies, shakes and drinks.

    More about Potbelly

Potbelly first opened in Chicago in 1977. There are now 425 shops across the country. Many of them are corporate owned, but there’s a growing contingent of franchised restaurants which now includes about 80 locations. The Brouses said they hope to open more Potbelly shops in the Carolinas in the future.
