A hotel near Mayfaire opens, joining a growing list of new stores and restaurants

A new hotel has officially opened its doors across from Mayfaire Town Center.

The Tru by Hilton opened on Thursday, said Chris Hardy, vice president of commercial strategy for Parks Hospitality Group.

Located at 1010 Ashes Drive, PHG Wilmington LLC initially purchased the site for $1.5 million in late August 2022, according to the city of Wilmington's development tracker. Site plans for the hotel were submitted to the city in 2023, according to prior reporting from the StarNews.

The hotel has four stories with 101 rooms, according to prior StarNews reporting. In a cross-parking agreement with the adjacent development, the Tru by Hilton Mayfaire offers 126 parking spaces and three handicap spots on site.

"We're pet friendly, we have EV charging stations, free hot breakfast, a pool table and games in the lobby, (and) we have a 24-hour market that offers beer, wine, and some local products," Hardy said. The Tru by Hilton offers a "fresh place for people to stay when they come visit for business or leisure ... (with) a great location ... (near) a lot of different shops and restaurants and ... not too far from the beach."

Guest accommodations include standard room types with either a king or two queen beds, Hardy said. Each room is also equipped with a mini refrigerator.

The property boasts its central location to the University of North Carolina Wilmington campus and short drive to downtown Wilmington, according to the hotel webpage. Visitors can also expect free Wi-Fi, a fitness center, a business center, and digital key room entry.

Two hotels, including a SpringHill Suites by Marriott and Residence Inn, are located near the new property. The area is also home to the Hudson Renaissance apartment complex, Bank OZK, the corporate headquarters for several businesses, and a variety of restaurants and shops.

Mayfaire continues to grow and develop, with a variety of new stores and restaurants planned for the area and additions to current places. Free People (women's clothing), a major renovation at Reeds Jewelers, an expansion of lululemon (athletic wear), Vochos Urban Mexican Kitchen and Potbelly Sandwich Shop are among them.
