Wreck on Columbia County 61 takes one life, four others injured
One youth was killed and four other people were injured about 8:14 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2024 in a single-vehicle wreck on Columbia County Road 61 east of Magnolia. Preliminary Arkansas State Police reports do not identify minors who are killed or injured in vehicle accidents. However, other sources identified the passenger who was killed as Charles “Dooney” Jones Jr., 17.
Kiwanis Pulled Pork Dinner Big Success at Watermelon Festival
The Hope Kiwanis Club has prepared a special meal on Thursdays at the Watermelon Festival for many years; however, this year the club tried something different and it appeared to be a big success. The club served a pulled pork dinner at the Fair Park Community Center and the reports from those eating were popular. Customers were waiting for the club to begin selling dinners when they opened at 4:30pm. Dinners were served in the community center and “to go” orders were also available. The club has been selling smoked pork butts around Thanksgiving for the past couple of years and they have become experts in preparing the delectable smoked meat.

The Hope Police Department hosted “National Night Out” Tuesday (8-6) at Hope’s Fair Park. National Night Out is a national effort sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. The Red Wolves are still seeking their first winning season in five seasons, but hope is back in Jonesboro after a late run in 2023 saw them get back to a bowl game for the first time under head coach Butch Jones. They were picked 4th in the Sun Belt West preseason poll but received just 3 fewer points than the 2nd-placed Troy Trojans, and their return to Atlanta in the middle of November could be the game that clinches an above-.500 record if they play their cards right.

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — The Arkansas Razorbacks are well represented at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games. In total, 35 athletes and two coaches are participating in the Olympic Games with Arkansas affiliations. Twenty-five athletes are current and former Razorbacks while the other 10 are with the pro group.
