County hires engineer for capital projects

Wilson County has hired Brajesh Tiwari as its county engineer. Tiwari has nearly two decades of public and private sector experience in civil engineering and project management. He began the new role Monday.

“Brajesh will immediately begin working on a wide range of county projects and developing a county capital improvement plan,” County Manger Ron Hunt said in a news release. “We are excited to have him join our team.”

Tiwari most recently worked for the city of Durham as its principal engineer.

In this new position added in the county’s 2023-24 budget, Tiwari will work across departmental teams to provide engineering services and project management for county government departments, Wilson County Schools and Wilson Community College, under the direction of Hunt.

Tiwari will consult on county government building and repair projects, contracts, water services projects, public school facilities and community college facilities. This will be done through preparing construction cost estimates, planning schedules and developing strategy and data to justify projected facility needs, site requirements, expenditures and obtaining appropriate permits for projects, officials said.

Tiwari has held various engineering positions and has experience in design, review and supervision of stormwater, grading, storm drain, utilities (water and sanitary), erosion and sediment control, according to county officials. In addition, his skills include construction management involving budgeting, scheduling, bidding, labor management, value engineering and construction supervision with various government projects.

Tiwari holds a professional engineer license, a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech.
