Wilson loses District 6 Ages 9-11 opener

The Wilson City Little League Ages 9-11 all-stars had a quick turnaround to scramble to stay alive Saturday morning in the North Carolina Little League District 6 Ages 9-11 tournament at Gillette Baseball Complex.

Wilson saw its 2-0 lead dissolve into an 8-2 loss to Bull City of Durham in the first round Friday night, June 21, at Field No. 2. Wilson played South Durham Orange in the first elimination game Saturday morning at Southern Bank Stadium while Bull City moved into Sunday’s winners bracket final against the South Durham Green-Johnston County winner Saturday.

Wilson got both its runs in the top of the first inning when John Lawton Nichols singled to lead off, stole second base and scored on Dominic Carlone’s single to right field. Carlone came around on an error by Bull City.

Wilson only had two more hits in the game, singles by Walston Langley and Garrett Godwin, as Bull City took the lead with three runs in the third inning.
