    Truck, camper destroyed in BP fire

    A truck and camper were destroyed in a fire Tuesday night under the awning of the BP Station on 5030 Raleigh Road Parkway W.

    Deputy Fire Chief Jim Campbell said the fire was an accident. He said the awning over the pumps sustained moderate fire damage and smoke damage. The building’s exterior also received smoke damage. No one was injured.

    “Crews arrived on the scene and found a single passenger vehicle fully involved in fire,” Campbell said, “The fire was quickly extinguished by fire personnel.”

    BP was closed Wednesday morning.

    Campbell estimates $192,500 in property losses and $34,000 for content for the business, truck and camper. In total, 20 personnel responded with seven vehicles. Wilson Fire/Rescue Services was assisted on scene by the Wilson Police Department, Wilson County Emergency Medical Services and Wilson Utilities.
