CAPPS Entertainment is expanding its options on Airport Boulevard to take customers and gamers to other worlds.

Wilson’s prime gaming attraction spot, which already includes cornhole, ax throwing, miniature golf and pins (bowling), will soon add virtual reality gaming, arcade games and picture rooms.

“We’ve been here open eight months now, and this section of the building has just been sitting empty,” owner Rob Brothers said. “We’ve been leasing the other three sections of the building. We were thinking what could we add if we were to lease that section.”

Brothers said adding a virtual reality arcade is something no one else is doing locally.

“It’s not like this is next door,” Brothers said. “There’s not this in Raleigh. We’re not always standard in our choices. We try to think outside the box a little bit. We looked at a bunch of different things and VR kept coming back to us. It’s a neat opportunity for us to bring something that’s outside the box, kind of on the cutting edge and it’s not available everywhere. We’re hoping to attract people not only from Wilson, but from Raleigh to say, ‘Hey, they have something we don’t have. Let’s go over there and see what it is.’”

CAPPS is still a few weeks away from debuting the new VR room. Brothers didn’t give an exact date the virtual reality room will be open. He said they’re still testing things to make sure everything’s working the way it should.

“We want to give people lots of choices,” Brothers said. “We’re trying to bring some stuff to Wilson where people can stay in the area, stay under one roof. Some kids may want to go bowling while the adults come do the escape room. There’s lots of choices.”

Brothers detailed the variety of games, from escape rooms to first-person shooter games, storyline games and more. Brothers said the games include player vs. player and player vs. computer games. On one half of the room, a laser tag style VR game is set up for players to either play two-on-two or four-on-four.

“There’s all kind of different games,” Brothers said. “Some of the games are cartoon character avatars, some are more serious. There are about five or six different games, about 13 different maps you can play on this half. The arena’s really divided in half so we can have separate four person games or a group of eight.”

Brothers said there are games for ages young and old. For younger kids, Brothers said he recommends the fishing game or the dancing game available for children. Above all else, Brothers said the graphics are what impressed him the most.

“The graphics are incredible on these systems,” Brothers said. “The ‘Alice in Wonderland’ game is the best graphics game of any game I’ve ever played, any system anywhere. Once you play one, you’re just going to want to go down the line and play them all. These companies make games that are not available for us at home. These are commercial games. It’s not something you can load up at home with Meta Plus or Steam.”

The new section does not affect the existing section of the building, which is open business as usual. Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
