Will Fontenot stop supporters’ smears?

So Ken Fontenot is “ Committing to a positive campaign ” (column, July 16). Will this be like the positive campaign of 2022? I would estimate that during the height of that campaign season, I received a weekly virulent diatribe against Linda Cooper-Suggs. They far outnumbered the anti-Fontenot mailers. I won’t try to list their attacks; no one needs to hear those vicious slurs again. Oh, they weren’t signed by his campaign committee; instead, they came from the state Republican Party or various PACs. But Ken made no effort to stop them or to publicly rebuke his advocates.

So, is that what he is going to do again? Keep his hands clean while his outside advocates do all the dirty work?  I will believe that Ken is sincere about being positive only when I see him denouncing all negative attacks on Dante Pittman coming from outside sources. It will not be enough for him to say he is not responsible for smears; he must actively denounce what they say. He must stop them from being mailed.

Perhaps he should pledge to resign from the race if outside sources begin negative attacks. That would be proof of his commitment.
