Again I want to thank The Wilson Times for your continued coverage of veterans’ organizations in Wilson County, including your outstanding coverage of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 8 throughout the years. During our annual Forget-Me-Not fundraiser at Parker’s Barbecue, it felt good to not once hear someone say “I did not know there is a DAV chapter in Wilson.” Thank you for your coverage and support of the veterans’ organizations.

We had our annual Forget-Me-Not fundraiser over the Independence Day week. We want to thank the Parker’s Barbecue restaurant owners and managers, Donald Williams, Eric Lippard and Kevin Lamm, for allowing us to be at Parker’s. We were treated and hosted exceptionally. I don’t have the words to describe how welcomed we felt. The staff treated us like family, not to mention that many gave donations.

To a person, I think, we felt the honor, respect and love you all have for Wilson County and city of Wilson veterans. We are honored and thankful to God that we have your business in Wilson that shows its appreciation for America’s veterans. We salute you, and may God continue to bless the management, business and staff.

As for the fundraiser, over the three days we worked, the citizens of Wilson and Wilson County as well as visitors and those passing through were truly generous. Parker’s management and staff and citizens of Wilson, you are the greatest. And to the DAV members, families and friends, thank you — it couldn’t have happened without your hard work. Everyone who braved those hot, hot days: God bless each and every one of you.

So, when you see the DAV’s Army green and Navy gray vans traversing Wilson to transport veterans to and from medical appointments in Greenville, Raleigh and Durham, be proud — you all made this possible. I can’t say thank you enough. May God continue to bless the United States of America, our active-duty military, the great state of North Carolina and all of her citizens.
