With a triple-digit heat wave expected to hit the Pacific Northwest this weekend, many are likely brainstorming ways to stay cool.

The National Weather Services Portland office released an excessive heat warning weather message on Tuesday, July 2 that warned of “dangerously hot conditions with temperatures from 100 to 105 expected.”

The NWS warning is in effect from noon, Thursday, July 4 to 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 7.

An extreme weather resource guide on the city of Wilsonville’s website recommends the Wilsonville Public Library as a place for community members to cool off. Wilsonville communications and marketing manager Bill Evans said in an email that the Wilsonville Public Library will typically extend its hours when “deemed necessary."

Wilsonville Public Library director Shasta Sasser said in an email that the library will be extending hours this weekend due to the forecasted heat. On Friday and Saturday the library will operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., as opposed to closing at 6 p.m., and on Sunday it will be open from noon until 8 p.m.

The advisory also lists the water features in Town Center Park and Murase Plaza as places to cool off and provides links to Clackamas County and Washington County resources. The Clackamas County page includes the Wilsonville Community Center along with the library as cooling centers during the daytime. Evans said in a text that he does not anticipate the community center being open beyond normal operating hours.

A list of tips to stay safe in the heat and warning signs for heat-related illnesses can also be found on the city’s resource guide.
