In what must be the most elaborate party in town, KWVH’s Kentucky Derby Party Presented by Ozona Bank came across the finish line in top style to celebrate one of the greatest traditions of Spring and to raise much-needed money for Wimberley’s community radio station.

More than 300 guests watched as Mystik Dan edged by Sierra Leone in a very close photo finish to win $3.1 million. In second place, Sierra Leone, won $1 million and the third place winner, Forever Young, took home $500,000.

Held at The Videre Estate, guests watched the 150th Kentucky Derby on a captivating 16 by 12 foot screen, drank customary Mint Juleps, placed bids, wore extravagant hats and Derby gear, and posed with Star Wars characters during the fun, high-spirited afternoon.

The community gave generously in what will be, according to General Manager Tim Kiesling, “the largest fundraiser in KWVH history.” Early results showed that the live auction garnered more than $41,000 and the Paddles Up auction, to complete the station’s tower project, raised more than $19,000, before expenses.
