I don’t need to tell you that some Monday mornings can be pretty hard to face. The family-friendly Wimberley Wake Up Club with John Odell and Matt Mendoza will help you through what can be the craziest two hours of the week. Their upbeat Monday morning show delivers just what you need— plenty of positive energy, just the right amount of music, community chit chat, and, most importantly, the WISD school lunch menu. It’s like a two-hour breakfast with a couple of friends who can get you centered for the week ahead.

If you’re outside KWVH’s Fishbowl studio on Old Kyle Rd at 7:15 a.m., you might see three or four carloads of kids hanging out car windows to wave at hosts Matt and John. Between the local news and other talk you’ll get John’s “94.3-ina- row” tunes. Halfway through the show you’re likely to hear from recurring guests like Mayor Jeff Rasco of Woodcreek and from non-profit leaders like Frank Curtis of the Lions Club. You’ll meet other hardworking community members, who, by their presence and actions, will confirm that everything is as it should be.

Host John Odell has been behind the KWVH microphone for the past three and a half years. Raised in Lubbock, he built an insurance career in Denver before his wife Melissa discovered Wimberley in 2019. They surprised their grown kids with the news and before long, upped stakes and settled in.

A former Dell Computer technician, co-host Matt Mendoza of the Hill Country Help Desk is used to solving issues and calming frustrated PC owners with his quiet, take charge manner. He joined the show five months ago and has, according to John, “brought a fresh view of what the show can be.” Music segues, sound effects and other audio treats are his contributions, no doubt inspired by his own musicianship. He grew up in Austin and, after getting an education at DePaul University in Chicago and working in Portland, returned to Texas and made his way to Wimberley.

Both hosts have nothing but good things to say about the remarkable resource that Wimberley has in KWVH. When asked what more they might want to share, they urged the community to volunteer and donate to the station so that our “voice” is firmly planted in the terra firma of Wimberley.
