The Wimberley Community Center is offering a new class, Qi Gong, that cultivates and balances life force energy. Qi means energy, or life force, and it is the energy that runs through our body and everything else in the natural world. An ancient system, the program includes forms and meditations modified from advanced levels of an ancient Chinese system called Jingui Golden Shield.

Suitable and beneficial for beginners and more experienced students, the class which meets twice a week, offers reduction of stress and tension, improved flexibility, circulation and lymphatic function, the strengthening of bones and joints and of lung function, and the reduction of inflammatory pain and the balancing of blood pressure through special techniques. Not only is it useful for centering and grounding, it can help students collect, store and protect energy from being drained away. It can also connect to energy in nature.

Taught by Teresa Mullan Frease, a certified Qi Gong instructor, Frease has studied under Jingui Golden Shield Qi Gong Master, Dr. Dongxun Zhang, for the past 26 years. She is also the principal assistant to Dr. Zhang. She has lived in Wimberley for four years and is passionate about sharing what she’s learned so that others can achieve health, happiness and longevity.

Classes are Monday from noon to 1 p.m. and Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. Classes cost $10 and can be paid at the WCC office (card only). For expanded information, go to austinqigong. com.
