In what started out as a blog shared with friends, the memoir, “Everything’s a Two-Step But a Waltz: The Reluctant Texan comes Home,” by Wimberley author Eileen “Chick” Morgan is now available from Mezcalita Press and Amazon.com.

This highly readable page turner recounts two events, both occurring on a single day, that upended Morgan’s high-powered and picturesque life, delivering a double-barreled heartache that would change the course of her life forever. A “coming of aging” story, the native Texan, who long ago left to pursue a high-profile career as a global consultant, suddenly finds her safety net in a place she vowed never to return. In small town Wimberley, she faces down death, betrayal, the loss of her lucrative work, and the labyrinth of her inner landscape.

With elegant prose and unusual insight, readers become privy to her life as she revisits the paths of her relationships and leans fully into the pain of losing a life she loved. Showing character and courage, she forgoes bitterness and self pity and saves herself with perspective and humor.

In time, restoration comes from family, friends, the discovery of new artistic endeavors, and a long-legged dance partner. It was dance instructor Twozee Luper who gave her the title for her book. When learning to two-step in Mercer Dance Hall in Dripping Springs, Twozee told her, “everything’s a two-step, but a waltz.”

Chick Morgan, PhD, is a writer, singer songwriter, cabaret performer, podcast host, radio host and arts entrepreneur. After a full career working globally with large companies and nonprofits in leadership and strategy development, Chick applies those skills as an arts entrepreneur. She produced Wimberley Alive! Arts and Music Festival, created the inaugural Wimberley Storytelling Fest, and is the co-visionary, founder and leader of Descanso Creatives International Writer Retreats.

From performing as a cabaret singer in New York, she sings in Wimberley with her group, The Cashmere Cowgirls and with Women with Standards.

    This is her third book.
