Getting ready for Wimberley’s Fourth of July parade

Wimberley is getting ready to celebrate the Fourth of July with its outstanding annual parade. More than 100 entries will travel from staging areas at Danforth Junior High and the Lions field up FM2325 to RR12, past the Wimberley square and the traffic light at RR12 and RM3237 to its final destination at Sonora Bank.

More than a score of Wimberley Champions will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshals. All sport teams that won district titles and beyond during the school year, as well UIL academic champions, will lend plenty of spirit to the parade on floats celebrating their achievements.

Roads on the parade route will close at 9:30 a.m. and the parade will commence shortly thereafter. The event will end around noon.

The parade sponsor, the Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce led by Becca Hancock, Executive Director, enlisted a hardworking team of volunteers to coordinate the popular event. The parade draws about 4,000 spectators each year, well above the population of Wimberley.

Spectators should “secure viewing spots along the parade route early. Parking is available in many areas throughout the Wimberley Square and at the Oak Park Welcome Center,” said Jessica Vineyard, Chair of the Fourth of July Parade. “It is a first come, first accommodated type of situation. We encourage people to carpool to help relieve congestion.” Vineyard is a local realtor and co-owner of Rebel Rustic, custom woodworking.

The last day for parade entries is June 28. According to Hancock, the easiest way to sign up is through the link on the home page of wimberley.org. If a participant experiences problems, they are encouraged to call the Chamber at 512 8472201.
