City council discusses road repairs and other issues

While many Wimberley residents were taking vacation time and preparing for Fourth of July celebrations, the city council is working hard to address road repairs in the city environs and other issues.

A road maintenance inventory presented by Gilpin Engineering scored road repairs with color coding to delineate the roads most requiring repair.

Topping the list are roads in the Paradise Hills neighborhood. Community members from the neighborhood spoke at the recent council meeting about the condition of streets in Paradise Hills and urged the council to prioritize those repairs.

In other actions, the council approved RDC Paving, LLC to pave the Wimberley Square. RDC turned in the lowest bid amounting to $209,764.66.

The council approved the appointment of advisors to several city boards, commissions, and committees.

Edward Davis, Thomas Gordon, Brian Woodward and Bob Harla were named to the Board of Adjustment.

Tina Pennington, Larry Ellis and John Estepp were named to the Ethics Review Commission.

Lori Olson, Lee Anne Linam, Leah Cuddeback and Lin Weber were named to the Parks and Recreation Board.

Chris Sharp, Matt Joyce, Anne Ulfelder, Jerry Lunow and Ben O’Kane were appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Kristie Gaines, Kathryn Saballet and Bruce Levinson were appointed to the hotel Occupancy Tax Advisory Committee.

Tammy Heller, City Secretary, requested the repeal of two separate ordinances. One is the inactive Water and Wastewater Advisory Board and the Economic Support and Development Committee. The last meeting of the Water and Wastewater Advisory Board was in 2013 and the Economic Support and Development Committee has not met regularly since 2022/2023. The motions were carried unanimously to repeal both committees.

The city secretary also approved the appointment of Rebecca Minnick, Mayor Pro Tem, to the Capital Area Council of Governments General Assembly, a position vacated by the recent ending of Teresa Shell’s term on the city council. Minnick volunteered to fill the position.
