AUSTIN (KXAN) — More 3D-printed homes are being built in Central Texas. This time, it’s in Wimberley.

The new Wimberley Springs Development will have eight single-family homes stretching between 2,800 to 4,000 square feet, according to ICON, a construction technology company. The four-to-five-bedroom homes are available to buy now while construction is underway. Prices start in the upper $800,000s.

According to realtor.com, the median home price in that city is $650,000.

“One of the great benefits of 3D-printed homes is we’re delivering a high energy efficiency wall system and home. So, if there’s cold snaps or heat waves, this isn’t going to increase your air conditioning or heating costs,” Brooke Baugess, vice president of marketing and communications at ICON, said.

The houses are built with sustainability in mind, equipped with thermostats and concrete construction features that allow for advanced temperature regulation, as well as strength and durability.
