Property tax statements now available online
The November Constitutional Amendment election led to changes in property taxes that have delayed tax statements for the year, according to the Hays County Tax Assessor-Collector Jenifer O’Kane. The property tax statements are now available to view online at tax.co.hays.tx.us and will become delinquent on Feb. 1. O’Kane issued this statement on Dec. 14 to explain the reason for the delay. “The November 7th election was canvassed on November 14th and included propositions which resulted in extensive changes to the manner in which tax rates and exemptions are administered,” O’Kane said. “The tax office has encountered issues with files that are...
Homeless in Hays — 2023: 180 unhoused people on any given night
Hays County Commissioners Court heard a presentation by the Hays County Homeless Coalition about the data gathered from the 2023 Point in Time Count at its regularly scheduled meeting last week. The PIT Count is an annual count mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It is a census of people experiencing homelessness in Hays County on January 26 of each year. The PIT count allows the government to gather a comprehensive data set of people experiencing homelessness within the state and across the country. 2024 launches with a splash at Blue Hole
, , , Two hundred and fifty hardy runners and more than 400 people attended the annual Polar Bear Plunge and 5K run on January 1 at Blue Hole. Enthusiasts were greeted with temperatures in the mid-forties at the 9 a.m. start of the race.
WHS Varsity Basketball takes 2nd in Hoopfest
, , Over the weekend Wimberley hosted their boys and girls varsity only Hoopfest tournament. Both of the Texans teams were able to make it to the championship game however both would come up short in the final game to take second place in the tournament. On Thursday the men’s team started off the tournament with a 66-54 win over The Lockhart Lions and then immediately followed that win up with another 64-53 win over TOHS. Lady Texans play in Wimberley Hoopfest
Over the weekend Wimberley hosted their boys and girls varsity only Hoopfest tournament. Both of the Texans teams were able to make it to the championship game however both would come up short in the final game to take second place in the tournament. The Lady Texans were also able to go flawless the first two days of the tournament to find themselves in the championship game as well facing off against the Aledo Bearcats (19-7). The Lady Texans offense had a slow start to the game only putting up 16 first half points to find themselves trailing 2816 at halftime. They were able to figure it out in the 3rd quarter and start generating some offense putting up 14 points after the halftime break in the 3rd quarter, however, was unable to cut into the lead as The Bearcats matched them and then some with 16 third quarter points now trailing 44-30. Unfortunately The Texans never found their groove and were unable to fight back into the game in the fourth as they would go on to lose 55-35 and take home second place in their Hoopfest tournament as well.

Polar Bear Plunge & 5K Run at Blue Hole
Get a fresh start to 2024 with the Polar Bear Plunge and 5K run at Blue Hole Regional Park, January 1st. The event ushers in the New Year with a combination of fitness and fun. The 5K route begins at Blue Hole, winds through downtown Wimberley and concludes with an exhilarating plunge into the crisp waters of Cypress Creek. The festivities include music, food and drink vendors, games, prizes and a warming fire pit. “Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a daring polar bear plunger, or a newbie to this brand of Blue Hole amusement, there’s something for everyone to enjoy,” said Richard Shaver, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Wimberley. “Be sure to bring a change of clothes!” Registration is $35 per person in advance or $45 on the day of the event. Online registration is at wimberleyparksandrec. com. Registration includes admission to the 5K, a commemorative event t-shirt, drink tickets, and a swag bag.

WHS Senior Caden Romo to be Air Force Falcon
Wimberley HS senior Caden Romo signed a National Letter of Intent on December 20th at a ceremony at WHS’s Texan Gym to continue his playing career at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
