Artists bring creativity at local art show
, , , The Wimberley Valley Art League held its first Blue Agave Art Fair last weekend in the Blanco Room of the Wimberley Community Center. The two-day festival held a reception the first evening for VIPs and artists who gathered to meet each other and forge relationships. A further testament to the community’s artistic force, the festival brought together painters working in a variety of mediums, jewelry artists, photographers, fiber workers, sculptors, woodworkers and other accomplished creatives. Organizers say the fair will be an annual event.
WHS Team Tennis brings home state title
After conquering obstacle and obstacle throughout the 2023 season, Wimberley High School’s Team Tennis finally captured the grandest prize of them all: a state championship. The Texans upset the No. 1 ranked Canyon Randall Raiders in the State Semifinal round 10-8 before defeating the Kaufman Lions 10-7 to capture the state championship for the first time since 2021. Pioneer Town transforms into ghostly haunt
, Halloween in Wimberley got underway last weekend with the Haunted Pioneer Town and Train Ride of Terror. A production of the Wimberley Players and 7A Ranch, the two-evening event raised goosebumps as actors portrayed resident ghosts in the streets, the shops, the graveyard, the chapel, and other locations throughout the Western-themed village. The town’s newly operational 12-gauge railroad provided visitors with a hairraising trip as ghoulish apparitions appeared along the route. WIC announces Harvest Moon Dance and mural
The Harvest Moon Dance, hosted by the Wimberley Institute of Cultures, will take place at the historic Fischer Dance Hall on Sunday, October 29 in Fischer, Texas. The dance will feature music by Erik Hokkanen & Friends, a catered dinner by Old 300 BBQ from Blanco, and a silent auction. The Gold Dust boutique in Wimberley’s Quarter Shops received Keep Wimberley Beautiful’s community award for its artistic and well-maintained exterior plantings. While handing over the traveling award, President Lin Weber, KWB’s President said, “We appreciate what you do for Wimberley.” “It’s an honor to receive this recognition from KWB,” said owner Danielle Conway. “It’s hard work but I wouldn’t want to do it any other way.”

Wimberley High School seniors Josh Bober and Jacob Mantsh have been named Commended Students in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. Bober and Mantsch are two of approximately 34,000 Commended Students across the United States, and achieved recognition by scoring highly on the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Commended Students’ scores are among the top 4% nationally. 2023 WHS Graduate John Moore was named a Commended Student last year. The Wimberley Adoption Group and Rescue had plenty of things to celebrate at their 2023 gala. Not only did their enthusiasts come out in strong support of their mission to rescue and find homes for dispossessed dogs and puppies, but they also celebrated their 2,000th adoption. The Palmer family was the lucky recipient of “Corndog,” who had the distinction of being the milestone adoption. Radio station KWVH doubles its reach
Wimberley’s community radio station, KWVH 94.3 FM, announced that its long-anticipated signal upgrade is nearly complete. Installers will attach antennas on their new tower site this week when weather permits, effectively doubling the station’s reach across the Wimberley Valley. Its broadcast transmission power increased from 30 watts to 100 watts, allowing thousands more listeners to tune into KWVH, about twice the number of radios that could previously receive their signal. For the second time in three years, the Wimberley High School Team Tennis squad has advanced to the UIL 4A state tournament. The Texans punched their ticket to state by defeating district rival Boerne High School in the regional tournament. It was the fourth year in a row that the Texans and the Greyhounds met up in the regional final, with Boerne winning in 2020 and 2022, and the Texans victorious in 2021 and 2023. , , , Wimberley High School was perfect for the week as the Lady Texans defeated both the Cuero Lady Gobblers and Navarro Panthers to wrap up the second seed in the district standings. Early voting begins in Hays County
Early voting began this week in Hays County in anticipation of the Nov. 7 election, according to Hays County Elections Administrator Jennifer Doinoff. The early voting period began on Monday, Oct. 23 and runs through Friday, Nov. 3. The purpose of the election is to adopt or reject 14 propositions that represent State Constitutional Amendments as submitted by Texas’ 88th Legislature. The Wimberley Texans packed their bags last week and headed out of town to take their undefeated record on the road against their strongest rival the Navarro Panthers. Hunters Night Out awards $100,000 to charities
, , The Wimberley Knights of Columbus Council 9151 celebrated their 20th Anniversary Hunters Night Out on Saturday, Oct. 21 by awarding $100,000 to local charities and organizations. Over 1,300 people turned out to make the 20th HNO the most successful event ever. “Hunters Night Out is successful because of the unified commitment by the Knights to hold an event that allows them to give back to the community in a variety of ways and because of the generous support of the community and HNO sponsors,” said Knight Gary Barchfeld.
