Aqua Texas sues groundwater district over pumping fine
The National Weather Service website stated that as of January 4, 24% of the Hill Country is in what is considered extreme drought conditions, which is the second to the worst drought designation category. Additionally, 20% of the Hill Country is in severe drought, which is a level below extreme. Aquifer levels reached the lowest point since the 1950s. Issues around groundwater usage and the limitations thereof have gotten contentious. , , , The Wimberley Texans (13-8) went on the road to take on the Boerne Greyhounds (18-5) Tuesday night in a district matchup that saw Boerne outing the Texans with a final score of 47-34. The Texans jumped out to an early three point lead at the end of the first quarter but after only scoring 4 points in second quarter and the Greyhounds hitting three pointers at the right time, the Texans lost the lead and were never able to get it back falling to the Boerne Greyhounds 47-34 in a low scoring game. Sophomore Paul Gumbert led the Texans in scoring with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 4 steals. The Wimberley Texans (13-9) are currently sitting at 4th place in the district looking to give themselves a little room for comfort with a win over the Panthers (7-11) Tuesday night at 6:30 as their two game road stretch comes to an end in another district matchup game as Wimberley looks to snap their two game losing streak.

Property tax statements now available online
The November Constitutional Amendment election led to changes in property taxes that have delayed tax statements for the year, according to the Hays County Tax Assessor-Collector Jenifer O’Kane. The property tax statements are now available to view online at tax.co.hays.tx.us and will become delinquent on Feb. 1. Homeless in Hays — 2023: 180 unhoused people on any given night
Hays County Commissioners Court heard a presentation by the Hays County Homeless Coalition about the data gathered from the 2023 Point in Time Count at its regularly scheduled meeting last week. The PIT Count is an annual count mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It is a census of people experiencing homelessness in Hays County on January 26 of each year. 2024 launches with a splash at Blue Hole

WHS Varsity Basketball takes 2nd in Hoopfest
, , Over the weekend Wimberley hosted their boys and girls varsity only Hoopfest tournament. Both of the Texans teams were able to make it to the championship game however both would come up short in the final game to take second place in the tournament. On Thursday the men’s team started off the tournament with a 66-54 win over The Lockhart Lions and then immediately followed that win up with another 64-53 win over TOHS. The following day The Texans came to the tournament needing two big wins to make the championship game the next day. With the first game...
Lady Texans play in Wimberley Hoopfest
Over the weekend Wimberley hosted their boys and girls varsity only Hoopfest tournament. Both of the Texans teams were able to make it to the championship game however both would come up short in the final game to take second place in the tournament. The Lady Texans were also able to go flawless the first two days of the tournament to find themselves in the championship game as well facing off against the Aledo Bearcats (19-7). The Lady Texans offense had a slow start to the game only putting up 16 first half points to find themselves trailing 2816 at halftime. They were able to figure it out in the 3rd quarter and start generating some offense putting up 14 points after the halftime break in the 3rd quarter, however, was unable to cut into the lead as The Bearcats matched them and then some with 16 third quarter points now trailing 44-30. Unfortunately The Texans never found their groove and were unable to fight back into the game in the fourth as they would go on to lose 55-35 and take home second place in their Hoopfest tournament as well.
