On Tuesday, July 16, multiple first responders and law enforcement agencies responded to a call about a young adult male missing in the Kentucky River.

“We got the call from dispatch because the state police requested us,” said Winchester Fire Department Chief Chris Whiteley. “We responded right away at approximately 2:45 yesterday afternoon. I think they got the call at 2:40.”

The Winchester Fire Department responded to the call and headed to the site along Athens-Boonesboro Road with crews of Marine 1, Rescue 1, and Rescue 2.

Also responding – among others – were crews from the Clark County Fire Department, Lexington Fire Department, and crews from Madison County and Laurel County.

The missing person’s name and age has not been confirmed

It has not been confirmed whether or not they are from Clark County.

“[There]…appeared to be four individuals on Boonesborough Beach swimming [and] playing,” Whiteley said. “One of them got out there a little far, panicked, and went under.”

At approximately 8:45 p.m., the Winchester Fire Department ceased operations, debriefed, and delegated to law enforcement agencies – who stayed on scene overnight.

The Winchester Fire Department then returned at approximately 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

“We’re doing grid work [and more] on the river,” Whiteley said. “It’s still an ongoing process.”
