Professor Allison Weiss, Prison Parole Project, Featured in Mother Jones
Washington and Lee law professor Allison Weiss was quoted in a recent issue of Mother Jones magazine for an extensive feature examining the parole process in Virginia. Professor Weiss is a legal writing instructor and also teaches a practicum class focused on parole advocacy. Prior to entering academia, Professor Weiss worked on the federal habeas docket for the Federal District Court for the Western District of Virginia. Before that, she worked for the Federal Defenders for the Western District of North Carolina in the appellate division.

National Brain Tumor Society, the largest patient advocacy organization in the United States committed to curing brain tumors and improving the lives of patients and families, will host the seventh annual Virginia Brain Tumor Walk & Race at Bryan Park on November 3, 2024. There were no shortage of charges for a trio who did their best, but weren't quick enough to avoid their arrests on weapon, burglary, and other charges. According to a spokesperson from the Frederick County Police Department, at around 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 22, officers on patrol attempted to stop a 19-year-old driver in the area of Madison Street and Carrollton Street, though Anthony Lee Ferguson, Jr. continued on before stopping near the intersection of Logan Street and Sherman Avenue, at which point three passengers got out and fled on foot.
Report: Red Lobster on S. Van Dorn Street is closing in eight days
The announcement that Red Lobster is closing in Alexandria’s West End was met by surprise and skepticism from restaurant staff. The international seafood chain closed about 100 locations after declaring bankruptcy in May, and an August court filing revealed that it will not renew leases at 23 unprofitable locations. Listed locations set to close by Aug. 31 include Alexandria’s at 555 S. Van Dorn Street, according to a report from the Washington Business Journal.
