Ribbon cutting held at logistics center built on former blighted site

A ribbon cutting was held Thursday at a formerly blighted site that is now the first building at the Green Knight Industrial Park in Wind Gap.

Real estate developer JVI LLC and Green Knight Economic Development Corp. said the 49,000-square-foot third party logistics facility will be leased and operated by Trillion Sources.

For many years, however, they noted that the property’s claim to fame was that it had the third largest pile of tires in the state, with more than 2 million tires at its peak.

From 2001 through 2005, Pennsylvania DEP spent nearly $2 million to remove 1.9 million tires from the property, the developers said in a release. After the tire cleanup, the property continued to sit largely idle, its reuse potential unclear because of the site’s unique and challenging shape, the tires and other environmental challenges,

However, JVI purchased the approximately 4-acre lot from the GKEDC in September 2023 and recently completed construction of the new facility.

JVI President Jim Vozar said that as part of JVI’s and Trillion’s commitment to green initiatives, the energy efficient facility was constructed using eco-friendly and sustainable materials.
