CityLine: The new state law that will help close the gender wage gap
BOSTON — TheBoston Women’s Workforce Council and the City of Boston’s Equity and Inclusion Cabinet share their efforts to push towards equal pay for women of color. The Massachusetts Wage Equity legislation, known as the Frances Perkins Workplace Equity Act has been signed by Governor Maura Healey making Massachusetts the 11th state to put this law into effect--requiring employers to disclose salaries when posting job positions. Lauren Jones, Secretary of the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development says the new bill on salary transparency will change the game for women in the workforce.

At least three shots fired around church and park
Investigators have recovered evidence indicating multiple shots were fired near St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 233 Harvard St., in The Port neighborhood of Cambridge. ShotSpotter technology heard three rounds fired at around 8:30 p.m., while a caller said they heard four or five shots fired at Sennott Park, according to scanner reports. The park is behind the church; in addition to shells found by police, an officer soon found a park garbage can that looked like it had been hit by gunfire.

Vermont farmer breaks Champlain Valley Fair record with giant pumpkin
ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. — A Vermont farmer has smashed the previous Champlain Valley Fair record for the largest pumpkin grown in the state. This year's winning pumpkin was grown by Wilbur Horton from Springfield, Vermont, with the pumpkin weighing in at a staggering 1,327.5 pounds. Horton is a member of the Vermont Giant Pumpkin Growers Association.
