WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WWLP) – There was a mix of frustration and understanding among people at Bradley International Airport, all with places to be, but not necessarily a way to get there.

Frustrated travelers lined up behind airline service desks looking for answers officials simply didn’t have.

Friday’s global-wide IT outage grounded thousands of flights, including many at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks. Travelers either received notifications of a change to their itinerary or an alert encouraging them to arrive early due to increased airport traffic.

The outage affected all those passing through the airport today, whether their flight was directly impacted, they were navigating more congested lines, or they were in the air when news of the outage shook the globe.

“Several people in my family reached out they were like were you affected by the global IT, you know, like break down and I was like um no I was in the air,” said traveler Erin Mason. “But the fact that it happened and there’s people out there that were probably affected and not able to get on their flight today I know that is very concerning.”

22News spoke with several travelers both coming to and leaving from Bradley this morning, all of them frustrated, but understanding that system malfunctions like this are largely out of their control.

“Considering the fact that everybody’s very stressed out, considering the fact that they have to manually write out all our tickets, which is what they were doing for the last hour, considering the fact that you know, the plane hasn’t even left Minneapolis, I will say that they have handled it really well,” said Rick Robert of Cheshire Connecticut.

As the afternoon went on, fewer flights were cancelled than this morning, but many remained delayed.

If you are traveling today or into the weekend, be sure to check for updates from your airline, as this outage is expected to disrupt schedules for some time.

In a statement this morning, the Connecticut Airport Authority said, “Normal flight operations have resumed at Bradley International Airport after this morning’s nationwide outage, which resulted in some airline delays. Passengers who are scheduled to fly today are encouraged to check with their airline on the status of their flight.”
