(Mass Appeal) – Springfield Police Officer Nestor Santos, a seven year veteran of the Springfield Police Department, was shot while on his way to work in early June and, while he was recently released from the hospital, has a long road to recovery ahead of him. Cigna’s health equity fund aims to narrow health care access gap in Hartford
Bloomfield-based Cigna Health Group launched a health equity fund that plans to invest $9 million in communities nationally over the next three years, starting with Hartford. In Hartford, more than a quarter of residents surveyed had asthma. Between 2017 and 2021, Hartford averaged 53 days per year of “poor” air quality or worse.

Guard Donates F-15C to New England Air Museum
JULY 23, 2024 – The 104th Fighter Wing donated an F-15 Eagle to the New England Air Museum July 22 as the wing prepares for the conversion to the F35A Lightning II. Col. Michael Glass, 104th Operations Group commander, flew the F-15C aircraft 85-101 on its final flight, landing at Bradley Air National Guard Base, East Granby, Connecticut.
Police charge three in Kayla Wright murder
NEWPORT — The man police say shot and killed Kayla Wright, a 29-year-old Derby woman, last February is scheduled to be arraigned on a charge of first-degree murder on July 30. Two other men have already pled innocent to charges of helping to dispose of Ms. Wright’s body by placing it in a toolbox and throwing into the Missisquoi River.
Greater Hartford Children's Reading Literacy Programs Merge
United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut and Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford have announced the merger of their volunteer youth reading programs. Effective immediately, Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford’s Children’s Reading Partners Program will join forces with United Way’s existing United Way Readers program. The summer transition will allow United Way to absorb and amplify the strengths of both programs, setting the stage for a strong beginning this upcoming fall, according to officials of the two organizations.
