The New Release of This Napa Icon Is Pure Poetry

However you were first introduced to the wines of Cliff Lede Vineyards , odds are you won't forget their power & elegance, the stylish packaging, nor the names of the cuvées. The brand has put together the total package from vineyard to vintner, right to your glass. It has been poetic to watch the evolution of the winery since it was established in 2002. This week they officially released the 2021 vintage of their icon bottling Poetry . There's something otherworldly about the 2021 vintage, a sense of place that is especially highlighted in wines grown on volcanic hillsides. This is a wine you'll want to lay down in the cellar for years to come. Dig in, this is going to be fun.
The sun-kissed vineyard known as Poetry is carved into a steep west-facing hillside, reaching some of the highest elevations in all of the Stags Leap District. This vineyard draws its uniqueness from shallow, volcanic soils atop fractured shale. The stressful nature of the site, coupled with high vine density and farmed to very low yields, influences the vines to develop ripeness slowly and results in small flavor-dense berries. Vineyard design was headed by the phenom David Abreu planted with legendary clonal material—proprietary heritage selections of Cabernet Sauvignon.
" There is an effortlessness and ease to the 2021 Poetry that springs from the continuity and familiarity of its caretakers and the experience of the vines themselves as their roots dig deep into the shallow unforgiving terraces of rock and rhyolitic crevices. Wafts of warm summer mulberries, fractured rock, and violet perfume envelop the glass. Wild blackberry preserves form the flavor on the entry and combine with tantalizing, black truffle, sea salt, and steak au poivre juices. Plush tannin swathes the finish and wraps the tongue in a mineral laden, majestic embrace where the flavors linger long and pleasingly ." -Christopher Tynan, Director of Winemaking

Visiting the property will give you many tasting experiences, including Bar & VIP tastings. One in particular I highly recommend looking into is the Backstage Tasting Lounge, featuring artwork by Jerry Garcia, Grace Slick, Bernie Taupin, and more. Classic rock and roll plays in the background while you are shepherded through single vineyard wines, appellation series, platinum or library wines.
