Intoxicated Winfield woman arrested after 10 false emergency calls

PUTNAM COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An intoxicated Winfield woman was arrested after she made 10 false emergency calls related to domestic abuse.

On the night of June 23, 2024, Deputy Moses and Sgt. Leport, received a dispatch to a 911 open line call from a particular phone number in Winfield, Putnam County, WV. En route, deputies were informed that the caller reported being physically assaulted by her boyfriend.

Upon arrival at the address, deputies encountered the caller, Nickara Mills, who seemed to be intoxicated and uncooperative.

After searching the residence and finding no one else present, deputies explained the seriousness of misusing 911 and warned Ms. Mills about the consequences of reporting false emergencies. Deputies also confirmed Ms. Mills’ landline phone number and were told she did not have a cell phone at home, corroborating their observations. Subsequently, eight additional 911 calls were made from the same landline associated with Ms. Mills’ address.

During the tenth call, Ms. Mills reported a domestic situation at her residence, prompting Cpl. Chandler and me to respond. Despite our attempts to engage with Ms. Mills at the front door, she did not respond, but they could hear her talking inside. Meanwhile, Cpl. Chandler discovered Ms. Mills letting a dog out at the back of the residence. Deputies proceeded to the back and found Ms. Mills, who was only wearing a sports bra and a blanket around her body.

After detaining her, Cpl. Chandler searched the residence but did not find anyone else present. Subsequently,  Ms. Mills was arrested for falsely reporting emergencies.

As a result of these events, Nickara Mills is believed to have intentionally and knowingly made false reports to law enforcement, resulting in multiple unnecessary emergency responses, totaling ten counts of false emergency reporting. Mills is currently being held in jail under a 2,500 dollar bond.

In a separate case, a Fayette County man faces charges after allegedly threatening to shoot his son after becoming intoxicated .
