UNION COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A man is facing a slew of charges in connection to a shooting that occurred in late June near Wingate University’s baseball field.

Weston Parker Charles Vonegidy was arrested on Tuesday, July 2, and transported to the Union County Jail where he was issued a $200,000 bond.

On Friday, June 28, the campus was placed on lockdown just before 7 p.m. after reports of a shooting near the baseball field.

According to investigators, a man, identified as Vonegidy, drove erratically down Wilson Street before driving his truck into a ditch. He then fired several shots inside the truck, injuring himself.
