South Dakota State University Extension will return to Dakotafest in 2024 with educational displays and on-site experts showcasing more than 10 topics. Two fentanyl dealers sentenced in Rapid City after fatal overdose
RAPID CITY, S.D. - Two Rapid City women convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death have been sentenced. Christina Sanchez, 25, and Katey McGruder, 35, took part in a fentanyl distribution conspiracy in Rapid City. McGruder and her husband Curtis Cummings received large amounts of fentanyl from a source in Colorado and brought the fentanyl back to Rapid City, where it was further distributed by Sanchez and others.

BROOKINGS — Area residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous waste at a free event on Saturday. The city of Brookings Regional Landfill will host a household hazardous waste drop-off event from 8 a.m. to noon in the Dacotah Bank Center parking lot. The event is open to residents in Brookings, Deuel, Hamlin, Kingsbury, Lake and Moody counties, all of which are in the landfill’s service area.
Governor Girls Soccer Eyes Big Season
The Pierre Governor girls soccer team is returning all but two seniors from last year’s team who reached the quarterfinals and finished the season at 9-5-1. The Governors graduated both Ryann Barry and Brianna Sargent, but will have five seniors in the 2024 campaign as the Govs return Gracelyn Taylor, Ireland Templeton, Aly Hutchinson, Grace Engbrecht and Jersey Understock. Last year’s offense was the third highest scoring team in the state averaging 3.8 goals per game. The Governors also return the starting goalie in Emlyn Swanson who is entering her freshman year.
