Winnetka students show off $68,000 worth of moves

Students from Skokie School and Carleton Washburne Junior High again danced the night away March 15 to support their peers at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago.

The annual Winnetka District 36 Dance Marathon raised about $68,000 to support the patients at the children’s hospital.

The event began in 2019 and returned the following year to raise approximately $42,000. It was then put on pause for two years because of the pandemic and returned last year.

As part of the event, students from both schools participate in a number of fundraising activities, such as a coin war, in which students bring in handfuls of change.

During the dance marathon, they danced, played basketball, competed for raffle prizes and even pied their teachers. The students also made blankets and coloring books for the patients of Lurie Children’s Hospital.
