Gov. Holcomb breaks ground on first READI 2.0 project
Governor Eric J. Holcomb joined local and regional officials in Kokomo today to break ground on the first quality of place project supported by the recent expansion of the Indiana Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI 2.0), which increases the state’s overall program commitment to $1 billion, marking an unprecedented state-led investment in cultivating vibrant communities that attract and retain top talent. In Kokomo, READI 2.0 funding will facilitate the expansion of University Park at Indiana University Kokomo, adding critical student housing and amenities to retain and attract top talent and support significant job creation plans in the region’s growing electric vehicle (EV) industry.
Maple and Hickory Scholars spend summer researching
In Goshen College’s Maple and Hickory Scholars Program, awarded students spend eight weeks focusing on a particular area of research, alongside a professor who serves as both a supervisor and colleague. While participating in the Maple Scholars program, students live together on campus and take turns sharing updates on their research. The Maple and Hickory Scholars program is a unique undergraduate opportunity for our students to do hands-on research alongside their professors in interesting and diverse subject areas across various disciplines.
Elkhart police asking for info on missing 83-year-old
ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department is searching for information 83-year-old Henry Bernard Spearmon who is missing out of Elkhart. "He is approximately 5’7” and 150 lbs with a grey beard," authorities say. "Henry was last seen wearing a grey ball cap with a blue windbreaker, blue t-shirt, blue jeans, and grey tennis shoes. He was last seen at approximately 9 a.m. this morning in the Elkhart area."

Goshen College student selected for U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program
Billy Easton II, an undergraduate student from Goshen College, is participating in the U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program to study Swahili during the summer of 2024. Easton is one of approximately 500 American students at U.S. colleges and universities who were selected from over 5,000 applicants to study overseas or virtually in the summer of 2024.
July brush pick-up begins next week
Monthly brush pick-up will begin next week on Monday, July 29th. During scheduled brush collections, the Street Department will make only one pass through the city to pick up brush. Please have your brush by the front curb, but not in the street, by that first day at 7 a.m. Brush will not be picked up in alleys. The piles of brush should be trash-free. Crews cannot access the piles if blocked by vehicles.
