Winona comes together to fight discrimination at weekly conversation series

WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) -- Winona has been working towards making their community more welcoming and diverse.

Engage Winona hosted an event Tuesday to combat discrimination.

It was part of the weekly conversation series Winona Together. The event focused on race, a topic that can sometimes be tough to talk about.

Tables were set up for people to ask questions and get an understanding of others life experiences.

One official said the event is to help the community understand each other and everyone of different races.

"If you are white and you never really interacted with a person of color, or if you're a person of color and never interacted with a white person, your obviously going to have certain ideas and feelings and attitudes and whatever beliefs, but this is a time, what ROAR likes to do is bring people together so they can put all that on the table and really have a good conversation," said Maurella Cunningham Director at Residence Organizing Against Racism.

Engage Winona will have events all summer to bring the community together. The next event will be on July 23 to talk about mental health
