Ageless in our community – Spencer Potter
When asked if he would be willing to be interviewed, Spencer Potter, Waitsfield, claimed not to have much to say. From limited encounters, the opposite was suspected. Each week I get his email indicating the homes I will be visiting on my Thursday Meals On Wheels delivery route. He can’t recall how many years he has been sending these emails, but he knows it was his neighbor, Nancy Emory, who asked if he would get involved and serve on the board of the Mad River Valley Senior Citizens. He accepted. He came to recognize that the Meals On Wheels program needed to be more efficient and thus began his ongoing commitment to it.
Music, food, original art set up for the Mad River Valley Craft Fair on Labor Day weekend
Labor Day weekend in Waitsfield means the Mad River Valley Craft Fair at the scenic Kenyon’s Field with live music, food, and over 80 artist booths to peruse. The 53rd annual event is held rain or shine Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking is free. Admission is $5; kids 12 and under are free.

Three Vermonters finish first, second and third in final Plattsburgh pro fishing tournament of the summer
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The final professional fishing tournament of August in Plattsburgh was also the last in the Lake City for the summer. The American Bass Anglers Open Series featured a smaller group to close out the summer, with 18 boats competing for a cash prize of $3,000. That group featured several local anglers, including West Rutland, Vermont, native Tom Lavictoire, who took home the first-place prize. Lavictoire closed out the summer in Plattsburgh with back-to-back first-place finishes after the Major League Fishing Phoenix Bass Fishing League tournament at the marina the week prior. Lavictoire says his recent success stems from keeping his fishing tactics simple and old school to capture the biggest catch.
