2 swimmers go missing in New Jersey lake, police say 01:52

WINSLOW TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) -- The bodies of two swimmers who went missing on Monday were recovered from the Penbryn Lake in Winslow Township, New Jersey, police said.

Authorities are calling their deaths an "accidental drowning."

The two swimmers went missing at around 2:45 p.m., according to police.

Rescue crews, including state and county officials with K-9s and Camden County rescue boats, responded to the lake to search for the missing swimmers.

The Penbryn Lake, which is under New Jersey Wildlife jurisdiction, used to be a quarry used for sand mining. The identities of the swimmers aren't known at this time.

"When we were kids, we were forbidden to go back to that lake because it's so deep," said Barbara Stella, who owns a nearby farm. "That's why there's signs up – no swimming. Because it's a legend it just drops right off because it's a quarry."
