Louie and Honey’s Kitchen Expanding Winston-Salem Location

Louie and Honey’s Kitchen , a beloved bakery and café located in Winston-Salem’s historic West End neighborhood, is set to expand its space significantly. According to a recent Instagram post from the mother-and-daughter Co-Owners, Naomi and Natalie Gingerich , the bakery will soon take over the former Poppyseed Provisions space directly below their current location, which is currently occupied by The Mulberry Table .

The expansion will nearly double the space available for visitors to enjoy the bakery’s famous Amish cinnamon rolls and other offerings. The current 2,000-square-foot bakery will extend its kitchen by an additional 1,000 to 1,500 square feet into the adjacent parking lot. This kitchen expansion is slated to begin in one to two months, with a hopeful completion by Thanksgiving 2024. LMI Builders will handle the construction.

Naomi Gingerich told the Triad Business Journal (TBJ) that the decision to expand has been in the works since they opened their first brick-and-mortar store in December 2020. The need for a larger kitchen became apparent almost immediately. “We basically realized the first day we moved into our kitchen back in 2020 that it was too small,” Gingerich said. “Since that day, we have just been trying to figure out where the expansion would be feasible.”

The new kitchen will feature additional worktables for rolling out baked goods, a new oven, a walk-in cooler, and possibly other equipment, which will be especially beneficial during the busy holiday season. “Over the holiday season, Thanksgiving especially, we are just up to our knees and elbows and necks in pie dough,” Gingerich added.

Following the kitchen expansion, the bakery will also take over the 2,000-square-foot space below their current location early next year. The space, which houses The Mulberry Table, will be transformed into a larger dining and market area, complete with a second espresso machine and a market that offers a French market feel and Amish goods reflecting the owners’ heritage.

Gingerich believes that these expansions will help the bakery meet the current supply demands and create a more inviting space for people to gather. Additionally, the owners are exploring the possibility of starting a shipping program to deliver their baked goods nationwide. “I think that [the expansion] will create a bigger gathering place … and be able to meet the demands that we have right now in an easier way,” she said.
