WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A fox near Old Salem tested positive for rabies after attacking two people near Old Salem last week, according to the Forsyth County Department of Public Health.

The attacks happened on June 27. One of the victims was working in the area at the William C. Sims Sr. Neighborhood Center and another was walking. Both attacks happened minutes apart.

    The fox was euthanized.

Public health officials urge anyone who was in the area and came in contact with a fox from June 20 to June 27 to reach out to their primary care provider and Forsyth County Animal Services at (336) 703-2480.

Four animals have tested positive for rabies this year, according to the FCDPH. Health officials say one fox, two skunks and 1 raccoon tested positive.
