WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — One man is dead after a head-on crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Saturday, the Winston-Salem Police Department says.
According to a report, around 11:40 p.m. Saturday, WSPD responded to a disturbance involving a knife in the 600 block of Waughtown Street. Officers located the suspect’s and victim’s cars, both occupied, and tried to stop the suspect from leaving the parking lot.
At first, the suspect, Arnoldo Montenegro, complied with officers, but later rammed a police car and drove away from the scene. WSPD began a chase.
Greensboro police say car thefts rising The pursuit continued onto Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. It ended near Argonne Boulevard when Montenegro allegedly crashed head-on into another vehicle.
Montenegro was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Other than minor injuries, the person who was hit was unharmed.
WSPD says the victim of the disturbance is in good health.
WSPD also says it will complete an investigation through its professional standards division to ensure policies were followed. At this time, they will not be releasing the identity of the officers involved. Two officers have been placed on administrative duty.
