LAKELAND — While the Fourth of July weekend will be full of boomin’ fun, there will be some bloomin’ fun in Winter Haven.

On Saturday, Landscape Rehab Retail, a landscape design and installation company, is hosting a free “Planter Palooza.”

From noon to 1 p.m., Landscape Rehab Retail co-owners Alvaro and Julliana Castro will host Planter Palooza at their landscape center, 5661 Cypress Gardens Blvd., Winter Haven.

This will be the second Planter Palooza, following one held in April, a month after the Castros opened Landscape Rehab Retail’s Winter Haven shop.

“We were looking for a way for the community to know that we’re here and we want to educate people how to plant their plants correctly and how to care for them,” Alvaro said.

The Castros will instruct the planting workshops, along with Alvaro’s father, Frank Bachman, who’s been in landscaping for 35 years and is also a co-owner.

The Planter Palooza is free, but guests are asked to buy the pots and plants for the workshop at the gardening store.

Alvaro said the idea for Planting Palooza is to teach folks how to properly plant and maintain a variety of foliage in their yards, in what he called “miniature landscaping.”

“I hope to educate them on how to plant succulents, how to take care of them and how to have a passion for plants.”
