    Smoke & Flames: Kiel Fire Responders Rescue Victim

    KIEL - At 8:03 am on December 30, 2023, the Kiel Fire Department was dispatched to 829 Cleveland Street in the City of Kiel for a report of smoke and flames coming from a bedroom with a victim still inside.

    Given the dispatch information, Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Box Card 6-1-1 was opened to the working still, dispatching additional departments to the incident. Kiel Engine 4 arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and fire coming out of the front windows.

    Witnesses alerted to the sound of smoke detectors. Fire personnel deployed hose lines and began a transitional fire attack fromt he exterior and advanced to the room of origin. The fire was fully extinguished within four minutes of hose deployment.

    The resident of the home was evaluated by Kiel Fire Department Paramedics and released. Crews remained on scene for two hours conducting salvage, overhaul, investigation, and ventilation operations. There is currently no damage estimate. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. There were no injuries to civilians or fire personnel.

    The Kiel Fire Depatment and Ambulance Services were assisted on scene by the Red Cross Elkhart Lake Fire, Glenbeulah Fire, Kiel Electric Department, Kiel Department of Public Works, Kiel Police Department, Manitowoc County Fire Investigation Unit, New Holstein Fire, New Holstein Police Department and St. Anna Fire.

    The Kiel Fire Department wants to remind everyone the importance of installing working smoke detectors and to consistently check them to ensure proper operations.
