What a way to kick off the 2024 Home Talent season.

On Sunday, May 5, Poynette pounded Wisconsin Dells at home 14-2 in the season opener, an exhibition game, as Andy Knutseson scored two runs and drove in another while going five innings on the mound to get the win and allowing only one run on seven hits.

Dacota Potter tossed a scoreless two innings, while giving up one hit and a walk and striking out one. Ian Nowell also went two innings, with a run charged to his ledger, walking three and fanning two.

Going 3-for-5, Joel Thimsen led the way at the plate, with Knuteson, Carson Frost and Davy Tomlinson finishing 2-for-4. Tomlinson scored three runs and had an RBI, Frost crossed the plate twice and drove in two runs with a fifth-inning double, and Nowell ended up with three RBIs.

After taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Poynette plated two runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, with a four-run sixth inning breaking it open.

Eight different batters had a hit and scored a run for Poynette, with seven players driving in at least one run.

“For our first game, things went very well today,” said Tomlinson. “Pitching was solid, and we were excellent defensively. We had a balanced offensive attack, as everyone contributed today.”

On Sunday, Poynette travels to Dodgeville for a 1 p.m. game.
