    28-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man killed in motorcycle-vehicle crash Saturday night in Biron

    BIRON − A 28-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man is dead after a motorcycle crash with a vehicle Saturday evening in the town of Biron.

    The crash happened just before midnight on Saturday on South Biron Drive, near Strawberry Lane. The initial investigation found the vehicle was traveling north on South Biron Drive when it crossed the centerline and struck the motorcycle, which was driving south, according to to a news release from the Wood County Sheriff's Office.

    Lifesaving measures were attempted on the operator of the motorcycle but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

    The vehicle driver, a 25-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man, is suspected of operating while under the influence and was arrested on suspicion of third-offense drunken driving and violating bond conditions, according to the release.

    The passenger in the vehicle, a 21-year-old Stevens Point man, fled the scene and was later located in the village of Plover, the release said.

    The Wood County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, Wisconsin Rapids Fire and Ambulance, Wood County Rescue, Wood County Dispatch Center, Biron First Responders, Wood County coroner, Wisconsin State Patrol, Grand Rapids Police Department, Plover Police Department and Nieman’s Tow Service.
