MAUSTON − A 65-year-old Oregon, Wisconsin, man has been charged in connection with the May 10 death of a Madison man.

Jeffrey W. Crompton was charged Wednesday in Juneau County Circuit Court with first-degree intentional homicide. He is being held on a $1 million cash bail in the Juneau County Jail, according to court records.

The Juneau County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at about 11 a.m. May 10 regarding a male found not breathing at an address on 11th Avenue in Necedah. When they arrived, deputies and the Mauston Area Ambulance found Daniel J. Asmussen, 66, of Madison, dead at the scene, according to a Friday news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Due to the circumstances of the death, there was an investigation that lead to Crompton’s arrest and charges, the release said.

Crompton’s next court date is scheduled for Nov. 13.
