Stingrays trio brings home five trophies from State finals

BROWN DEER, Wis. — Three members of the M&M Stingrays swimming team brought home trophies from the 2024 Wisconsin YMCA State finals over the weekend.

Jacob Counts (12), Madelyn Krah (11) and Elizabeth Possi (8) accounted for five podium finishes between them, with Possi collecting three of them alone after taking second overall in the 50-yard backstroke (41.80 seconds) and third in both the 25-back (19.75) and the 50-freestyle (36.87).

Meanwhile, Counts captured third place in the 50-backstroke with a time of 32.53, while Krah took third in the 50-back after swimming the event in 34.85 seconds.

Stingray swimmers seized a total of 19 medal finishes in individual competitions and another two in relay events. The team also set 38 new personal-best times.

State also marked the final meet as a Stingray for Mary Mayhew (18), who has been a part of the team for the past 14 years.

Mayhew’s best finish came in the 200-backstroke, where she placed 15th overall with a time of 2:18.66. She also participated in the 100-butterfly (1:04.42) and the 100-back (1:02.84), finishing 22nd and 25th, respectively.

“She’s one of the best young people that I’ve ever coached,” Stingrays skipper Lenny Sipple said. “The entire team should follow her example in life and on the team. She’s going to do very well in whatever she happens to do in life.”
