More than 27,000 households in the Twin Cities region remain without power Monday morning, more than 24 hours after a powerful storm brought down trees and power lines Saturday night.

According to the latest Xcel Energy outage map, there are around 27,500 homes in the Twin Cities metro that have yet to have their electricity restored, with Xcel saying in a Sunday evening update that it's making "significant progress" in its power restoration efforts.

At its peak, Xcel Energy says there were 135,000 customers affected in Minnesota and western Wisconsin by Saturday's storms, though at its peak of the weather the Xcel site was showing outages affecting 170,000 households.

"Xcel Energy anticipates restoring most customers’ power by Monday night, though some work will continue into Tuesday," the company said.

The utility says it has deployed an estimated 1,250 line workers and support staff to restore power, with the majority of the remaining outages located in the western Twin Cities metro.

It also warned that restoration efforts could be hampered by another round of storms that is making its way through Minnesota, and is expected to hit the Twin Cities between 7–8 a.m.

Customers can keep up to date on their outage on the Xcel website.
