A GoFundMe account has been set up for a Wise County teen who suffered severe burns while protecting children from a fireworks accident.

Greenwood resident Hunter Donahue was at a Fourth of July event helping with a fireworks show. One of the mortars exploded setting off a chain reaction with other nearby fireworks.

As people started to scatter, Hunter threw himself over some small children nearby. He was hit on his back and his head suffering third-degree burns on over 30 percent of his body. Burned and bleeding, he was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery and received skin grafts.

Doctors say he may need more surgery. If you’d like to help this local hero pay for mounting medical bills, you can donate through GoFundMe on the Hunter Donahue page.
